Summer Vacation Series - Final Episode

Escalate the traditional Jacob’s Ladder block to a new level …

all the way to the top floor!

Summer is over and Autumn has officially begun as Jacob returns from the last of the Summer Vacation adventures. And what an adventure it was - last stop Hawaii.

Did you know:

Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world? It measures over 33,000 feet.

Captain James Cook, an English explorer, made his first visit to the Hawaiian Islands in 1778. He named the group of islands the Sandwich Islands in honor of the Earl of Sandwich.

The people of Hawai‘i consume the most Spam per capita in the U.S.

‘Iolani Palace is the only royal palace on American soil. It was built by King David Kala kaua and later occupied by his sister, Queen Liliʻuokalani.

Hawai‘i is the only state that is rabies-free

Hawai‘i is one of only four states that have outlawed billboards. The others are Alaska, Maine and Vermont.

General Directions (to make 1 block):

Nine-Patch Units – with a variety of different colors and prints use nine 2.5” squares and stitch them together in rows of 3 to form a nine-patch unit that finishes at 6.5” x 6.5”.

Make 5

Half Square Triangle Units – Using a background color and a main color, cut 2 – 7” squares of each to make 4 matching HSTs. Square them up to 6.5” (see Basic Beginnings for easy HST directions).

Make 4

Arrange the units as block below.

To make our favorite Jacob goes to Hawaii layout you will need 20 Escalated Jacob blocks, 10 with pink and yellow HSTs and 10 with purple and yellow HSTs (see layout below). You will also need and a 3” yellow inner border and a 3" pink outer border. Finished size of this quilt will be 84" x 102".

Thank you for traveling along with Escalated Jacob on his Summer Adventure Series. We hope your summer travels included plenty sunshine, friends and fabric.
